Equal Temperament
The most common contemporary musical temperament is obtained by separating the twelve notes of the chromatic scale by the same amount in a logarithmic frequency scale. The same principle may be applied to other scales, such as the 7-note diatonic scale or the 5-note pentatonic scale. I made a program to experiment with these scales. The notes, theory, codes and results are here.
A few examples are:
- Diatonic scale
- Do-re-mi from The Sound of Music
- Pentatonic scale
- Morning from Peer Gynt by Edvard Grieg
